CANCELED! Due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts, this volunteer clean-up day has been canceled.
The Bannock County Veterans Services Office is organizing a volunteer clean-up day on Sept. 24 for the Idaho Gold Star Families Memorial Monument.
“Gold Star Mother’s and Father’s Day is coming up, and we’d like to show our gratitude and honor those families by making sure that monument looks beautiful and clean for that day,” said Veterans Services Coordinator Melissa Hartman. “It’s also a good opportunity to prepare it for winter.”
Gold Star Mother’s and Father’s Day is observed on Sept. 24 this year. It’s a day to recognize and honor parents who have lost a child in the service of the U.S. military.
Volunteers are asked to arrive at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 1775 Gold Star Drive in Pocatello. Volunteers will pull weeds and clean the monument. Following the clean-up, a light dinner will be provided by the Idaho Field of Heroes.
The Idaho Gold Star Families Memorial Monument was dedicated in 2021 and is the first of its kind in Idaho.
