About Sheriff Nielson
Lorin w. Nielsen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1951. Lorin married and moved to Pocatello in May of 1977. In 1978 he was sworn in as a deputy sheriff during A.Carl Croft's term as sheriff. From 1983 to 1989 Lorin served as a deputy sheriff under S.R. Gameson. In 1989 he was appointed undersheriff by William T. "Bill" Lynn and served in that capacity until January 1996. At that time he was appointed Sheriff to replace the retiring Bill Lynn.
Sheriff Nielsen has been involved in improving child victim laws and juvenile justice on both state and national levels. Additionally he has rewritten the county's emergency operations plan and has been involved in organizing a multi-agency approach to disaster response within the county.
