Every county in the State of Idaho has the option for a Board of Community Guardians. This Board is made up of a select group of county residents that volunteer their time to be guardians. The Board meets once a month. Members are under Oath from the County Commissioners, which is the required proof of the guardian’s appointment. Members serve a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 12 years.
Members of the Board of Community Guardians provide guardianship and conservatorship for county residents that need an umbrella of protection. A person for whom a guardian has been appointed is called a ward. Referrals are submitted to the Board for guardianship. The Board reviews all referrals for acceptance or denial of each ward. If the Board approves the referral, the ward must have an appointment through the Court for guardianship. If the Board cannot accept the referral (remember, we are all volunteers) every avenue of resource for help is offered to the denied party.
The current chair of the Bannock County Board of Community Guardians is Liz Benson.
